Buckinghamshire Mansion

Lighting Design for unusual shaped extension

This just under 7,000 sq. ft. early 20th century house on a private estate in Buckinghamshire was in need of complete modernisation. Purchased by developers, the property was completely refurbished whilst adding a very unusual double octagon shaped extension.

Our brief was to provide an architectural lighting design and specification that emphasised the highly unusual shape of the extension and showed off the benefits of the whole house lighting control system. The mansion was only staged for sale in a small number of crucial rooms with the decorative lighting left to the purchaser to buy. The first floor hexagonal rooms were cavernous and a particular challenge to illuminate only with architectural lighting which was crucial to ensure favourable viewings whatever the weather, the season or the time of day. Shallow recesses to the ceiling allowed concealed LED ribbon to form the main ambient lighting whilst also highlighting the unusually shaped ceiling.
