Ground lights plus underfloor heating

My wisdom this Wednesday, mainly borne from (sometimes bitter!) experience, is regarding the placement of ground lights indoors.  If you are considering having ground lights as part of your lighting scheme AND you are also having under floor heating your Lighting Consultant and underfloor heating specifier should be put in contact with each other.  This should ensure the underfloor heating pipes are routed to be kept away from the ground lights – heat is the premature killer of LEDs!  And, don’t let your under-floor heating specifier tell you this can’t be done – it’s easy to do as long as it’s planned for.  If it’s not planned for it will be too risky at a later date to get the wiring across the screed without the risk of damaging the water pipes.  The same obviously goes for floor sockets, whether 5A or 13A.
